BOUGAINVILLEA

scored | performance

composed by Leo Gevisser

Throughout my childhood in South Africa, I have always been in awe of natural environments. Nature and its beauty have always been a key part of my long-term memory, framing my perception of my South African childhood.

One flower that I always refer back to is the bougainvillea—this flower grew along the sides of both my family’s and my late grandmother’s home. There is no direct reference to the flower in this piece; it is taken only as a manner of free, subconscious thought & inspiration.
